How to Fix Wifi and Airdrop Connection in MacOS Sonoma

Hi guys! How are you?

It has been more than five years since my last post. A lot of things happened since such as:

1. I have a daughter now!!!

2. I started cooking and really enjoy it.

3. Because to a virus named Covid-19, the world experienced a pandemic. The government ordered people all throughout the world to stay at home for several years. My family and I were tested positive once and had to be hospitalized for about three months, but we made it. The earth is currently healing!

4. I live in the USA right now!!!

Isn't that crazy?!

Anyway, on this post, I would like to share about how to fix wifi and airdrop connection in macOS Sonoma.

***

Apple released the first Sonoma developer beta on June 5, 2023, at WWDC, and entered public beta on July 11, 2023. Two days ago, it is officially released for public!

However, after I upgraded my macOS from Ventura to Sonoma, some issues occurred:

1. My macbook cannot connect to wifi (well, it could "connect", but you could not use the internet connection).

2. It cannot receive or send files via airdrop.

There will be several common solutions that you could find on the internet such as: Restarting your wifi, restarting your computer, restarting your router, forget networks and reconnect, or clearing your chace.

Some suggested to install a certain software (which was not an option, in my case).

But here it is my suggestion for you!

SOLUTION A : FIXING FIREWALL (worked for me!)

Considering I could still connect to wifi (although cannot use the internet as mentioned above) and my other devices could still connect to the internet from the same wifi well, so the problem must be inside my computer. Firewall (or other apps blocking internet connection) is a common culprit!

1. Uninstall your internet security software (or--antivirus) such as ESET or Little Snitch.

Go to Finder - Applications - move your app to Trash by right-clicking or dragging it.

2. Delete the remaining VPN settings.

Go to System Settings - Network - VPN & Filters - delete remaining VPN profiles under Filters and Proxies section. You have to do it manually although you already uninstalled the aforementioned internet-blocking software.

The profiles would be here.

3. Turn off the firewall. You can turn it on later.

4. Restart your computer. Voila! Enjoy your internet back.

SOLUTION B : REMOVE CURRENT WIFI PREFERENCES

Remove your current wifi preference (.plist)! Reconfigure your network TCP/IP later.

1. Quit all active applications and turn off wifi & bluetooth.

2. Go to Finder - Go - Go to Folder - enter /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/

3. Select :

com.apple.wifi.message-tracer.plist
NetworkInterfaces.plist
com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
com.apple.network.eapolclient.configuration.plist
preferences.plist

backup and then delete those files.

4. Restart your computer. Voila! Enjoy your internet back.

That's all! I hope it helps you and please let me know if you have question or other solutions to share! Let's enjoy Sonoma!!!

See you!

How to Show Files Hidden by Virus

This is a problem which very commonly happens in public PCs or any PC that got a busy "flash disk traffic" : Files and folders inside the flash disk suddenly disappear out of nowhere BUT you know that actually they are still there (check the space usage by right click-properties-ing the disk drive).

There are several options you could try :

Option 1 Scan your disk using antivirus.

In several cases it might work.

Option 2 Activating "show hidden files" option.

In Windows 8 and above:
a. Open your disk
b. Go to tab "View", it is on "Show/Hide" sub-tab.
(Check the pics below)

In my personal experiences, option 1 and option 2 rarely success.
Our important files and folders remain hidden by the autorun worm (yes, this all problems caused by a worm).

Then so please welcome my mainstay, favorite, simple troubleshooter:

Option 3 Using Command Prompt

1.

Open Command Prompt (CMD)
Simple steps : Click "Windows" - type "CMD" - hit enter
or "Run" - "CMD" - enter

Make sure you run the CMD as administrator.

2.

Navigate to your flash disk's drive by typing <drive location>:
and enter

3.

Type :
attrib -s -h -r /s /d *.*
enter

And.... voila!
Enjoy your recovered disk

That's all. Hope it's useful for you.
Thanks for reading and please kindly notify me if this tutorial needs to be updated or you have another alternative solution.

Btw it's been two years since my last update.
Two years, man.

See you on the next post!

How to Uninstall Office 15 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component

Yay, another IT tutorial :)

Just like the title says, it's a tutorial about how to uninstall Office 15 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component. You may encounter this problem while installing/re-installing Microsoft Office when you had already installed another version of Microsoft Office before.

The pop-up error message.

You will not find this component on Add/Remove Programs on Control Panel. Yet how to solve this error is very simple:

1. Open Registry Editor
Windows 8.1 or above: Click Start --> type 'regedit' and enter.
Windows 7 or Vista: Click Start --> in the search box, type 'regedit' and enter.
Windows XP: Click Start --> click Run --> in the Run window, type 'regedit' and enter.

2. After Registry Editor opened, go to: Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products

3. In Products folder, you will find many folders. Folders we'll need begin with 00005 on its name (see image below).

4. Find and delete all folders which contain Office 15 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component on ProductName.

5. After deleting all required folders, launch the Microsoft Office installer again and voila! let the installation begins.

That's all. Quite simple right?

Btw, I am using Windows 8.1 and haven't try it on another OS yet. But I expect it will work also.

Hope it helps and please let me know if something need to be updated on this tutorial.

Thanks and have a good day.

Convert audionote to mp3

Hi everyone! Nice to see you on blog again! In this post, I am going to write a tutorial about how to convert files with extension .audionote to .mp3. I have just found out this step yesterday and found it useful so I want to share it here. I try it on Win7 and haven’t tested it in other OS but I think it shall work universal.

.audionote is an Apple recording file’s extension. Just like some other Apple’s extensions, this extension cannot simply be played on non-Apple devices and it is pretty hard to find software to convert it to another type of sound extension like .mp3. This tutorial might be useful if you need to share a recording file (your teacher’s presentation, workshop, phone call with your girlfriend (kidding), etc.) from your Apple device to be played to another non-Apple device in very simple steps. Here it goes:

1. Open the folder containing your .audionote file. Make sure you can see your file’s extension. If it is not shown, you can follow these additional steps:

a. Go to Control Panel
b. Click Appearance and Personalization
c. Click Folder Options
d. On tab View, uncheck Hide extensions for known file types
e. OK

2. Press F2 or right click - rename on your file. Rename the .audionote to .rar (or .zip).

3. Right click again and extract your .rar file.

4. After the extraction, you will have some files as above. The file you will convert next is the one with .caf extension (actually it is play-able already in some music software).

5. Convert your .caf file to .mp3 using sound converter software or online converter website. I am using http://media.io/

6. Enjoy your new recording file! Now you can play it on your Windows PC, Android, Blackberry, and other players.

Hope it works and helpful for you. If you have questions or found error related to this tutorial, please let me know by leaving comment below or contact me via email. Thanks for reading and have a good day.
