Hi guys! How are you?
It has been more than five years since my last post. A lot of things happened since such as:
1. I have a daughter now!!!
2. I started cooking and really enjoy it.
3. Because to a virus named Covid-19, the world experienced a pandemic. The government ordered people all throughout the world to stay at home for several years. My family and I were tested positive once and had to be hospitalized for about three months, but we made it. The earth is currently healing!
4. I live in the USA right now!!!
Isn't that crazy?!
Anyway, on this post, I would like to share about how to fix wifi and airdrop connection in macOS Sonoma.

Apple released the first Sonoma developer beta on June 5, 2023, at WWDC, and entered public beta on July 11, 2023. Two days ago, it is officially released for public!
However, after I upgraded my macOS from Ventura to Sonoma, some issues occurred:
1. My macbook cannot connect to wifi (well, it could "connect", but you could not use the internet connection).
2. It cannot receive or send files via airdrop.
There will be several common solutions that you could find on the internet such as: Restarting your wifi, restarting your computer, restarting your router, forget networks and reconnect, or clearing your chace.
Some suggested to install a certain software (which was not an option, in my case).
But here it is my suggestion for you!
SOLUTION A : FIXING FIREWALL (worked for me!)
Considering I could still connect to wifi (although cannot use the internet as mentioned above) and my other devices could still connect to the internet from the same wifi well, so the problem must be inside my computer. Firewall (or other apps blocking internet connection) is a common culprit!
1. Uninstall your internet security software (or--antivirus) such as ESET or Little Snitch.
Go to Finder - Applications - move your app to Trash by right-clicking or dragging it.
2. Delete the remaining VPN settings.
Go to System Settings - Network - VPN & Filters - delete remaining VPN profiles under Filters and Proxies section. You have to do it manually although you already uninstalled the aforementioned internet-blocking software.
The profiles would be here. |
3. Turn off the firewall. You can turn it on later.
4. Restart your computer. Voila! Enjoy your internet back.
SOLUTION B : REMOVE CURRENT WIFI PREFERENCES
Remove your current wifi preference (.plist)! Reconfigure your network TCP/IP later.
1. Quit all active applications and turn off wifi & bluetooth.
2. Go to Finder - Go - Go to Folder - enter /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
3. Select :
com.apple.wifi.message-tracer.plist
NetworkInterfaces.plist
com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
com.apple.network.eapolclient.configuration.plist
preferences.plist
backup and then delete those files.
4. Restart your computer. Voila! Enjoy your internet back.

That's all! I hope it helps you and please let me know if you have question or other solutions to share! Let's enjoy Sonoma!!!
See you!
